Mario M Cuomo Bridge (Tappan Zee Crossing)

BEAM Directors have been involved with the evolving Tappan Zee project from the inception of the 30 mile long I-287 corridor study in 2001. Feasibility options for the existing three mile long bridge across the River Hudson informed the plan for a new 8-lane highway ‘transit ready’ replacement bridge. In 2011 the project was accelerated as New York’s first major design-build project and BEAM’s founders provided professional services including development of Employer’s Requirements and reference design(s), service on the client’s Blue Ribbon Selection Committee and Aesthetics Advisory Committee and the NYSTA Visual Quality Panel for the contract phase. The bridge architecture for the successful contractor was developed by BEAM partner James Marks under previous employment.
