Newark Bay Bridge Replacement

BEAM was commissioned as part of a multi-disciplinary design team to investigate multiple options for the cable‑stayed bridge replacement of the ageing Newark Bay Bridge. The project is part of a $10.7 billion initiative to widen the New Jersey Turnpike between Newark and Jersey City. The existing arched truss span is nearing the end of its useful life and will be replaced by twin cablestayed bridges to enable continued use through construction. The scale of the proposed cablestayed tower is significantly affected by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) constraints which limit the vertical height of any structure due to the nearby Newark Airport.
