Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link

BEAM is architectural consultant to two of the three contractor-led consortia commissioned to construct this significant new crossing of Mumbai Harbour. With a length of 22km spanning across the sea and open mudflats, the new megastructure will be a highly-visible addition to Mumbai’s highway infrastructure. Under three separate commissions to three contractor teams, BEAM was appointed to develop a cohesive architectural strategy to unify disparate construction proposals from the contractor teams such that the full length of the marine crossing could be understood as a unified piece of design. BEAM worked closely with each contractor to propose a suite of aesthetic alterations which would enhance the visual impact of the crossing and improve the user experience for the driver with minimal effect on construction cost.
