Folehavn Bridge, Valby
This structure is designed to repair a break in Copenhagen’s green ring, an annular parkland around the city centre. The cycle and pedestrian bridge spans 50m over the Folehavn highway, creating a portal gateway to the city whilst providing seamless continuity of the green route above. The sides of the bridge curl upwards to form a walk-through girder that cradles users as they cross. The organic form of the bridge is derived directly from the bending moments on the structure, designed as a single, closed-section weathering steel construction. The upstands are lined with planes of timber that extend into the parkland as verges providing a controlled zone for seating, signage and lighting.
