Céide Coastal Path

BEAM worked closely with Cake Engineering to upgrade the coast path from Céide Fields which forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way on County Mayo’s north coast. The route includes a dramatic lightweight suspension bridge which carries the path across a deep sea inlet. Structured from small elemental components to ease the logistics of construction in the isolated location, the bridge spans 60m high above the foaming waters of the gorge. The narrow 1.5m wide deck is stabilised laterally from a pair of deep catenaries which give the structure a distinctive aesthetic. The crossing is intended to be a significant attraction for tourists and a highlight of the dramatic coast walk from Céide Fields to Downpatrick Head.
