Bow River Crossing
BEAM was appointed by the City of Calgary Greenline Project to provide specialist architectural services for major bridge structures. The Greenline is planned to extend Calgary’s light rail transit (LRT) network across the Bow River to residential neighbourhoods in the north. The Bow River Crossing passes through diverse context and spans a complex series of obstacles as it traces a long serpentine curve over the river corridor. The project is charged with enabling sustainable journeys and providing positive public realm enhancements, and the bridge has significant NMU (non-motorised user) provision as well as light rail capability. The viaduct structure has been designed to minimise visual impact as it threads through parkland and wetland settings and features a distinctive main span over the main river channel.
