Ullevål Stadium Footbridge

The bridge serves the Ullevål Stadion, Norway’s National Football Stadium, replacing a temporary structure built in the 1990s across the busy road junction of the Oslo ‘Ring 3’ highway and Sognsveien. The new bridge will carry daily commuter pedestrian and cycle traffic, and accommodate extremes of pedestrian flow during stadium events. The bridge connects four landing positions in a curving X-configuration providing 620m combined deck length with main spans of up to 38m. The structure is designed to be viewed extensively from beneath and provides a distinctive fluid structural spine with cantilevered ribs supporting steel deck plates. The deck is supported on a series of V-piers arranged to minimise foundations in a complex urban site congested with buried services.
